Juvenile Detective
Jerermy McGee is assigned to the Detective Bureau as the Juvenile Detective. His primary responsibility is to investigate crimes committed by juveniles. He also has advanced training in sexual assault investigations and handles the majority of those cases.
Detective McGee manages the Juvenile Diversion Program, which if successfully completed, allows a juvenile to avoid having a court record. First time misdemeanor and unruly offenders are permitted into the program. Felonies and repeat offenders are referred to the Summit County Juvenile Court. Typically a juvenile and his/her parents will attend a diversion hearing, where a contract, which includes consequences for behavior, will be agreed upon. Generally, juveniles will be placed on probation, be required to obey all rules at home and school, and perform community service, such as the Saturday morning work detail.
The Juvenile Detective is also the liaison with all Tallmadge schools, maintaining relationships with teachers, administrators and students. He works closely with Summit County Children’s Services, removing abused and neglected children, and assisting in those cases. The Juvenile Detective also works in the Summit County Juvenile Court system, preparing cases and assisting in the prosecution of more serious and repeat offenders.
