History of the Recreation Center
Former Tallmadge Mayor Christopher Grimm along with many concerned community leaders conceived and built the Tallmadge Recreation Center which officially opened its doors for business on February 14th, 2004. Mayor Grimm with the support of Tallmadge City Council and Tallmadge City Schools moved forward with his vision of constructing a first class facility that would meet the needs of the residents in terms providing outstanding fitness, recreation, sports and family activities. The original $6,000,000 construction project was managed by current Mayor David G. Kline while he was serving as Service Director. While built with the hopes of attracting at least 2000 members the response was greater than anyone anticipated. Tallmadge Recreation has become the focal point of the Tallmadge community for residents of all ages. With nearly 4000 members and almost 500,000 visitors a year the Recreation Center underwent a much needed $600,000 expansion/renovation in 2008 with the addition of stadium seating for the soccer field and basketball courts and a doubling in size of the second floor fitness area. Once again current Mayor David Kline coordinated this project on behalf of the City during his time as the Service Director. Mayor Kline’s most recent improvement to the Recreation Center was just opened in September 2011 with the much needed parking lot expansion. For Tallmadge residents, the Recreation Center is another great benefit of living or working in Tallmadge. Manager of Parks and Recreation David Cooper reminds all that “Tallmadge Recreation Center is your place for family fun and fitness!”
