If your ditch is not flowing properly due to overgrowth or silt build up, call the Street Department to schedule an appointment for us to clean it out.  We do not remove trash, it is your responsibility to keep the ditches clear of trash.

Call the office @ 330-633-5130 to request a ditch enclosure.  This must first be approved by a supervisor, if you are approved, a drawing will be left with installation requirements for you.  You will need to purchase a $50 permit and post a $100 bond through the Zoning Department @ City Hall, 46 North Ave., lower level (330) 633-0090.  The Street Department will then schedule a time to dig your ditch to grade.  The City does not supply any materials.  The home owner is responsible for installing the enclosure and landscaping. We must inspect the installation before you cover it and again after the landscaping is finished in order to receive your bond refund. Call the Street Department for your pre-inspection and the Zoning Department for your final inspection.

Asphalt must be 4” thick and concrete must be 6” thick in the right of way. We must inspect the forms BEFORE YOU POUR, and AFTER  in order to receive a refund of your $100 bond. The City of Tallmadge is NOT responsible for street lights.  If you have a street light out, call Ohio Edison @ 800-633-4766, when the the recording begins, say 'REPRESENTATIVE' and you will quickly be connected to a resentative.   They will ask you for the location of the pole, if you are able to get the pole number, that would be better.

If there is a traffic signal not working properly, or a bulb is burned out, please call the Street Department office to report it.

A major storm could take 12 to 16 hours to complete after the storm ends. Cleanup goes on for several days after the storm.

The main roads are always plowed first, then the secondary roads, once those are completed, they plow the side roads.  We only salt hills and intersections on residential roads; we are limited to our annual salt deliveries so we must limit the amount of salt we use. 

Plows have to make four to six passes on a street to clear it curb to curb. It is best for residents to wait, if possible, until we’ve finished plowing before shoveling out your driveway approach. We cannot prevent snow from being deposited in driveway approaches and we do not have the man power to clear them out. 

Yard damage is inevitable, if you receive damage to your devil strip, call the office to report it, we will send someone out to inspect the damage and make required repairs to your lawn.  These repairs may not take place until spring.

Despite the high level of service provided, no guarantee can be given that the roads will be completely clear of snow and ice.

Mailboxes are sometimes damaged or knocked down by our snow plows.  This is inevitable due to the force and the amount  of the snow.  If your mailbox is damaged, call the Street Department to report it, we will send someone out to inspect the damage, and either repair or replace your mailbox with a new or partially used mailbox.  This repair may take a week or two (depending on the weather and man power).    

The City of Tallmadge no longer has a brush drop off site and no longer offers wood chips or leaf compost. Residents may take their brush to Brimfield Aggregate, located at 4200 Sunnybrook Rd., Brimfield, Ohio. 330-676-1533. www.brimfield-aggregate.com

Call the office for removal of dead animals on city streets.  If the animal is on private property, it is the home owners responsibility to remove the animal.  You may double bag the animal and place it out with your trash.  If a large animal dies on your property, call a dead animal removal company, i.e. Critter Control 1-800-274-8837.
