Numerous state routes and the interstate system run through the City, making an ideal location with easy access. There are large tracts of desirable residential, commercial and industrial lands set aside for development. Proper land use planning and zoning requirements help to assure orderly growth throughout the City.
The City offers residents and businesses a good tax base and sound fiscal practices, modern, up-to-date services such as Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services. The City of Tallmadge offers an excellent opportunity for business growth. A mixed business community operating in a favorable climate is the basis of Tallmadge's stable and healthy environment. Tallmadge's 340 business establishments, from its largest employer, S.D. Myers, Inc. to the small family business, represents the balance of opportunity and interest that keeps Tallmadge a vital part of the marketplace. The Akron area including Tallmadge is the recognized world leader in polymer research and production, with over 400 companies involved in this activity. Many Tallmadge firms are directly involved in polymer production or provide products to serve this industry.
There are over 60 manufacturing and industrial plants located in the City. Additional major employers include Hunt Machine & Mfg., Waltco Hydraulics, Owens Corning, Martin Wheel, and Steere Enterprises. Any assessment of the Tallmadge labor force must consider the entire Akron Area. There are at present over 300,000 jobs in the Area. The special demands of local industry have created a highly skilled and educated labor force. The Akron area ranks in the top six percent nationally in high-tech production and technical occupations.
