Uniforms are provided by the City of Tallmadge and are issued at the time of appointment to the Unit.
Auxiliary Structure
The Tallmadge Auxiliary Police Unit has an authorized strength of 32 officers, and is under the direction of the Director of Public Safety. The Auxiliary Liaison Sergeant acts as a liaison between the Police Department and the Unit, under the supervision of the Operations Commander.
The Unit meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Police Department Training Room. The meeting includes both business and training, and lasts approximately 2 hours; this time is credited towards the volunteer time requirement.
The Auxiliary Unit is led by a non-commissioned Colonel, who is appointed by the Director of Public Safety. Two Majors are assigned under the Colonel to organize the Support and Operations Divisions of the Unit.
Five Corporals are assigned as Squad Leaders, a Training Corporal, and a Crime Prevention Assistant. The Training Corporal schedules monthly training sessions, as well as any specialized training, such as CPR, self-defense, special interest speakers, tours, etc.
