Stormwater runoff occurs when rain or snowmelt flows over the ground. Impervious surfaces like driveways, sidewalks, and streets prevent stormwater runoff from naturally soaking into the ground.
Storm drains collect rain water and snow melt. Anything that enters a storm sewer is discharged untreated into bodies of water we use for swimming, fishing, and providing drinking water. Only rain should go into storm drains - no trash, oil, pet waste, fertilizers or other pollutants.
REMEMBER: Only rain down the drain.
